South Charleston Christmas Parade
Known for the music and dancing, this year’s summerfest features several nights of bands, free cotton candy, snow cones, face painting and jumping features to keep the young ones busy. The free festival is held near the Mound in South Charleston. There are dance competitions for kids and adults, as well as a “Dancing under the Stars” contest. Other attractions include an open car show for every car enthusiasts and the festival ends with spectacular fireworks.
The South Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau offers several events throughout the year at no cost to the public.
The first big event of the year is the annual televised Armed Forces Day Parade. The 58th annual parade will feature more than 100 military units. Brigadier General Paige P. Hunter, West Virginia National Guard Chief, Joint Staff, to be our Armed Forces Day Parade Marshal for this year!
The televised Christmas Parade on D Street spectacle has Santa arriving by helicopter at the Oakes Field Football Stadium. Crowds line D street to see Santa and all of the floats. Little red noses rush into the streets to pick up candy from Santa and other float riders.
