South Charleston puts you right in the heart of West Virginia’s destinations! With over 50 restaurants, several small shopping boutiques, antique shopping malls, and high-end retail stores, there is no shortage of things for you and your family to do. Other activities include a 18 hole champion public golf course and pro shop, outdoor Olympic size swimming pool, indoor ice arena, and an indoor pool and gym at the community center. The South Charleston City and Convention and Visitors Bureau offers several events throughout the year.
The first big event of the year is the annual televised Armed Forces Day Parade. The 59th annual parade will feature more than 100 military units. Colonel (Ret.) Robert T. (Bob) Deitz and Captain. Robert Allan Deitz will be our Armed Forces Day Parade Marshals for this year!
Known for the music and dancing, this year’s Summerfest features several nights of bands, free cotton candy, snow cones, face painting and jumping features to keep the young ones busy. There are dance competitions for kids and adults and a car show. The festival ends with spectacular fireworks.
The televised Christmas Parade has Santa arriving by helicopter at the Oakes Field Football Stadium. Crowds line D street to see Santa and the floats. Little red noses rush into the streets to pick up candy from Santa and other float riders.
Make South Charleston your destination while visiting all of the wild, wonderful attractions West Virginia has to offer!
